Ireland is the second top consumer of tea. It has 4kg annual per capita tea consumption. Morocco: Morocco regards tea as its national beverage. It is estimated that the average person drinks about 3.5kg of tea per year.
The trade of tea started from Dutch and now spread to all over the world with India playing a crucial role in it. In 1823, Camellia sinensis assamica, the plant that introduced tea into our lives, was discovered in Assam, India. The quality of the tea plant was rated as better than that of the Chinese Camellia sinensis plant. In the 18th century, India was a British colony. In 1835, the English or British planted tea gardens in Darjeeling, near Nepal. British began to export black tea manufactured in India to England. In short, China introduced tea, but India helped the world trade tea.
The top exporter was China, with US$1.97B. Sri Lanka is the second top exporter with US$1.34B. Kenya exported tea worth US$1.2B, and Indian tea exports stood at US$709M.
The Top Importer was Pakistan, with US$622M. United States imported US $526M worth of tea, Hong Kong imported US$511M worth of tea, and Russia imported tea of US$ 414 M.
45.8% of the total tea trade is contributed by black tea (fermented/partly, >3kg), with export value totaling US$3.72B. Black tea (fermented/partly <3kg) contributed 25.5% of the total tea trade, with an export value of US$2.07B. Green tea (unfermented <3kg) accounted for 15.8% of the total trade, with export value totaling US$1.29B. Green tea (fermented >3kg) accounted for 12.9% of the total trade, with US$1.05B.
